Student Organization Guide
2006-2007

Fall 2006

Dear Student Organization Leader,

Welcome back to a new school year and an exciting opportunity for your student organization to touch the lives of fellow students and the campus. The Center for Student Programs is here to assist you in meeting your goals and planning your events. This guide is designed to be a wealth of information about programming, student organization administration, and finances. I hope you will use it and share it with your members.

As you know, Georgetown is a complex place made up of many people trying to accomplish numerous goals without stepping on each other’s toes. The Center for Student Programs works to assist in this venture, particularly concerning co-curricular life. Student Programs staff are available to help you plan events, trouble-shoot, and navigate the GU system. We try to coordinate and guide the events and activities of many organizations, committees, and boards so that all can be best served.

In order to best serve student organizations and the campus, we need your help by following the procedures outlined in this guide. The funds allocated to student organizations come from the money you and your parents pay each year for tuition. We are all responsible for seeing that those resources are spent wisely, legally, and in your best interests. Each student organization’s allocation is handled by the university in exactly the same way as any other departmental budget and is subject to the same procedures regardless of what you are purchasing.

Our goals and yours are the same: to provide high quality programs that enrich the diverse community of Georgetown. We hope that you will learn as much from the process as you will give to the campus! As you begin planning events, please let us know what you are doing so that we can help you coordinate with other groups planning events for the same time.  This will make everyone’s events more successful. Please read this guide so that you can be informed about programming and budgets at GU. Have a great year and please let us know any ways that we can be of assistance!

Sincerely,

Martha M. Swanson
Director of Student Programs
